Yesterday, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon issued Executive Order 15-04, instructing all state agencies, commissions, departments and institutions to fully implement the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the freedom to marry.
Governor Nixon’s order ensures that legally wed same-sex couples are afforded the protections and respect of marriage. But in announcing the order, the Governor went one step further by underscoring the urgent need for state lawmakers to advance legislation prohibiting discrimination against LGBT Missourians in employment, housing and public accommodations.
And momentum for this critical legislation is building in the Show Me State, with more than 1,000 businesses—including major Missouri companies like Sprint and H&R Block—pledging their support and urging lawmakers to pass MONA without delay.
Freedom for All Americans thanks Governor Nixon for speaking out, and we look forward to working alongside him and our local partners to ensure that soon, all LGBT Missourians are protected from discrimination under the law.
