BEAUFORT – Authorities are executing a temporary evacuation Thursday morning of the Pine Street neighborhood following a suspected methamphetamines lab explosion at a structure on the street.
Fire and rescue responded to a structure fire at 308 Pine St. around 10 a.m. after a partially nude, burned woman appeared at the fire department requesting assistance, according to rescue crews on scene.
HAZMAT crews from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point arrived around 10:20 a.m. to assist the response.
Beaufort Chief of Police Steve Lewis was knocking on doors along Pine Street asking residents to temporarily evacuate the area until the scene was secured, according to a News-Times reporter on scene.
A second, male victim was discovered nearly seven to eight miles away on the 800 block of Tuttles Grove Road, completely nude suffering from burns to the arms and legs.
It is unclear how he traversed to Tuttles Grove.
At least one victim was transported via helicopter to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
The status of the structure at 308 Pine St. could not be ascertained and has been secured by emergency personnel from Beaufort, Morehead City and Atlantic Beach.
