India started the second day's play ahead of 36/0 against Australia. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took the innings forward. Rohit (35) got out on the team's score of 74 runs. He broke Sachin's record as the fastest Indian to score 2000 runs in Tests. Rohit achieved this feat in 36 innings while Sachin did it in 38 innings. After this, Shubman shared a 113-run partnership for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (42). Pujara became the fourth Indian to complete 2000 Test runs against Australia. Earlier, Sachin, Laxman, Dravid have done this. Pujara has scored 530+ runs against Nathan Lyon, the most against any single bowler. Shubman scored 128 runs in 235 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six. Shubman is the fourth Indian to score a century in all three formats in a year. Before him Suresh Raina has done this in 2010, KL Rahul in 2016 and Rohit Sharma in 2017. He is the first Indian opener to score a century in all formats in a year. Australian spinners Nathan Lyon, Matthew Kuhneman and Todd Murphy got one wicket each.
