Chandigarh Police ASI Ravinder Kumar and Head Constable Randeep Singh Rana have been arrested by the CBI for demanding bribe by threatening to implicate them in a fake rape case. It is alleged that Randeep had already taken Rs 10,000 from Ranjit Singh of Dhanas. When he came to collect the remaining amount, the complainant recorded it. After this the CBI arrested him. Randeep Singh Rana was demanding bribe in the name of ASI Ravinder. The CBI also arrested Ravinder the next day. Both were presented in the CBI Special Court on Wednesday, from where remand of two days has been given.
In the complaint, Ranjit said that head constable Randeep had been a tenant at his house. He was posted at Sector-24 police post. Threatening to implicate him in a rape case, he asked for Rs 20,000, out of which the complainant gave Rs 10,000. When he was pressurizing for the remaining 10 thousand, the complainant informed the CBI. At the same time, the accused now started demanding one lakh rupees. Ranjit said that he can give only 50 thousand. Based on the recording of the conversation between the two, the CBI arrested Randeep from Sector-23 at around 12.30 am. After that Ravinder Kumar was also arrested.
