Before the next phase of the 4G services and 5G spectrum auction process, demand for transparency of source of telecom equipment has increased. BSNL's demand for the source of equipment and its code has been supported by industry chamber PHDCCI.
In this regard, Sandeep Aggarwal, the mentor of the PHDCCI Telecom Committee and Chairman of Telecom Export Council has supported BSNL by writing a letter to the Union Telecom Secretary. It says that through the knowledge of the source of the equipment and its coding, it can be prevented from threats like spying. Here, Indian telecom company BSNL has invited letters of interest to investigate. BSNL says that equipment from local companies does not meet the standard of quality. Therefore, they will be investigated first.
So far Indian companies and none other than Huawei of China have agreed to disclose the source of their equipment. The auction process of the 5G spectrum in the country is going to start soon. The 5G service is expected to start this year. Agrawal said that the requirement of only Indian source code and ensuring access to DoT and BSNL without any restrictions would have the advantage of spying activities through 4G devices.
